Ethanol is a clear, tintless liquid with a characteristic, specific odor. In its diluted solution, it has a somewhat sweet flavor, but in more concentrated solutions it has a blazing taste. Ethanol has been manufactured since ancient times by the fermentation of sugars.
Starches from potatoes, corn, rice, wheat, and other grains can also be used in the production of ethanol by fermentation. However, the starches must first broken down into simple sugars.
India’s ethanol market is estimated to expand from $ 2.50 billion in 2018 to$ 7.38 billion by 2024, flaunting a CAGR of 14.50% during 2019-2024, on the back of increasing use of ethanol in applications such as fuel additives and beverages. The Indian government is trying to turn down its dependence on imported crude oil and incentivize Indian sugar manufacturers to produce ethanol for Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). It is anticipated that ethanol production will increase by three to five folds in the future in order to meet the demand for its 20% Fuel Blending Program (FBP).
